Andreas Angelidakis is an architect (Bachelor of Architecture Sci-ARC, 1992; MSAAD Columbia University, New York, 1995). Angelidakis maintains an experimental architectural practice, whose focus spans the gap between ideas and buildings, often using contemporary art as a testing field and new technologies as thinking environments. Angelidakis has lectured in Europe, US and Asia, and his work has been the subject of or included in exhibitions at the Centre d’ art contemporain in Grenoble, MU Foundation in Eindhoven, Fargfabriken in Stockholm, National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens (EMST), Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Venice Biennial 2000, Sao Paolo Biennial 2002, Experimenta Design Biennial Lisbon, Netherlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam and elsewhere. His work appears in numerous publications, such as L’Arca, Purple, Interview, Arkitekten, New York Times, Visionaire, Citizen K, Contemporary, Artforum, Metropolis M, Textfield, among others. Nadja Argyropoulou is an independent curator based in Athens. She has received a Bachelor’s degree in History & Archaeology (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and a Master’s degree in Art History and Theory (Essex University, UK). From 1993 to 2001 she was the Director of Cultural Programming and Public Affairs of the Hellenic American Union in Athens. In 2003, she was Head of Culture and Image at the Department of the EU Hellenic Presidency Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was the assistant curator for the Greek Pavilion at the 2005 and 2007 Venice Biennials and collaborated with the 1st Athens Biennial 2007. Argyropoulou has curated a number of exhibitions, most recently What remains is future (within the Programme of Patras European Capital of Culture, 2006), and I Syghroni Elliniki Skini, (Art Athina, 2007). Furthermore, she has curated and organised a large number of cultural events in Greece and abroad (dance, cinema, music and theatre productions, conferences, projects on ecology, etc). Since 2007 she has been collaborating with the DESTE Foundation Center for Contemporary Art. She contributes to magazines and newspapers in Greece and abroad and writes texts for solo and group exhibitions.
Diana Baldon is an Italian curator and writer, currently based in Vienna, where she is Associate Curator of the group exhibition A Question of Evidence, opening in November 2008 at Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary. She received a Master’s degree in Creative Curating at Goldsmiths College, University of London, in 2002. Since then, she has realised exhibitions internationally including, among others, Left Pop at the 2007 Moscow Biennale, Marietjca Potrc/Kyong Park at London’s Cubitt Gallery, After Effect at Centre d’Art Neuchâtel. Between 2007-08 Baldon was Curator In Residence at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where she devised the Demonstrationsraum exhibition programme and taught the seminar Curatorial Studies within the Department of Art Theory and Cultural Studies. She regularly contributes to international art magazines including, among others, Artforum International, Untitled, Tema Celeste and Exit. Her critical writing has appeared in a number of artists’ catalogues as well as in the critical readers Men in Black – Handbook of Curatorial Practice (Revolver Books, 2004); LAND, ART: A Cultural Ecology Handbook (Royal Society of Arts, 2006).
Christopher Marinos is a writer and curator based in Athens. He is the founder and co-editor (with Thanos Stathopoulos) of the online art magazine kaput (www.kaput.gr). In 2005-06, he worked as an art historian/researcher for the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens (EMST). He was the editor of Possibilities: Interviews with Young Greek Artists (futura, Athens, 2006) and Meatspace: Art in a State of Emergency (www.meatspaceart.org). Since 2002, Marinos has been contributing regularly to various Greek art journals and exhibition catalogues. In 2006-07, he co-edited (with Xenia Kalpaktsoglou) the visual arts section in Velvet monthly magazine. He is the Athens correspondent for Flash Art International and Modern Painters, and a founding member of the Reading Group (http://readinggroupathens.blogspot.com).
Chus Martínez is the chief curator of MACBA in Barcelona. She was the director of the Frankfurter Kunstverein in Frankfurt, where together with a curatorial team consisting of Katja Schroeder and Tobi Maier, she ran the institution’s exhibitions programme, as well as an international residency programme for artists, writers, art historians and curators, and administered dynamic forms of public programming, including a focused series of artist talks entitled When Kittens Become Cats. Under her direction, the Frankfurter Kunstverein foregrounded the notion of the ‘social imagination’ through group exhibitions (Whenever it Starts it is the Right Time, April 2007 and Pensee Sauvage: on Freedom, June 2007), alongside solo presentations. From 2002 to 2005 Martínez was the artistic director of Sala Rekalde in Bilbao, where she focused on commissions and presentations of new projects by artists such as Sergio Prego, Sharon Lockhardt, Azucena Vietes and Mark Lewis. In 2005, she produced, together with Lars Bang Larsen and Carles Guerra, a large-scale group exhibition entitled The Invisible Insurrection of a Million Minds. In 2005 she was also the commissioner of the Cyprus Pavilion for the 51st Venice Biennial, featuring work by artists Panayotis Michael and Konstantia Sofokleus. She is an active lecturer in various universities and colleges, such as Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Royal College of Art in London, and Bard College in New York, and regularly contributes to books and publications.
Dimitris Papaioannou studied alongside the artist Yannis Tsarouchis. He has worked as a painter, performer, comic book creator, choreographer and director. He founded Edafos Dance Theatre and created all the company’s works. He conceived and directed the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. In 2006 he created ‘2’.
Cay Sophie Rabinowitz, born in Norfolk, Virginia, resides in New York and Berlin. While a graduate student in the PhD Programme of Comparative Literature at Emory University, she relocated to Berlin in 1991 to research, write and curate. She is currently working on a book about the 90s art scene in Berlin, and has authored numerous monographs, exhibition catalogues and books about contemporary artists. Rabinowitz is a regular contributor to periodicals, such as Art in America, Art Papers, Texte zur Kunst and Boiler, as well as Financial Times and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Since 2001 she has been on the faculty at Parsons, the New School of Design. From 1999 until 2007 she was Senior Editor of Parkett, and until recently she served as Artistic Director for Art Basel.
Zafos Xagoraris studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His Ph. D. thesis is focused on “The construction of miracles and the surprising techniques of Hero of Alexandria” (National Technical University of Athens). Xagoraris’s work consists of series of drawings, public sound installations and devices. He teaches at the Athens School of Fine Arts and was the co-curator of the Greek representation at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2004.
